At the beginning of the demonstration, Sahra Wagenknecht, a politician of the post-communist Left, who convened the rally together with the women's rights activist Alica Schwarzer, spoke. Wagenknecht read the so-called Manifesto for Peace, which the two women published two weeks ago. The text, which was signed by 650,000 people, calls on the federal government to focus on peace negotiations instead of sending more weapons to Ukraine. Berlin was reminded of the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there were about 800 policemen. Friday's demonstration was attended by 10,000 people, and apart from throwing an egg at the Russian embassy, the event passed without incident, the RBB station reported, citing the police.
The DPA agency also wrote that it was forbidden to have symbols at today's demonstration in Berlin glorifying war, including military uniforms or the letter Z, which Russia uses as a symbol of its invasion of Ukraine.
