48th round of ELH: Pardubice dominated the first half, Třinec failed for the fourth time in a row

Prague – Hockey players from Pardubice dominated the regular part of the extra league and won the Cup of the President of the APK LH Jaroslav Pouzar for the first time. In the 48th round, Dynamo won 5:0 in Karlovy Vary and has a certain triumph thanks to the defeats of the second-placed Vítkovice with České Budějovice 1:4 and the third-placed Sparta in Liberec 1:2. Coach Radim Rulík's men secured their participation in the next year's Champions League.

Pardubice increased their lead over Vítkovice to 15 points four rounds before the end. They are 18 points ahead of third-placed Sparta, who still have five games to play.

Dynamo has dominated the basic part of the independent Czech league twice so far in the 2002/03 and 2003/04 seasons. The APK Chairman's Cup LH Jaroslav Pouzar (formerly the President's Cup) has been awarded since 2009/10. In the federal league, Pardubice were the best in the long-term part in the seasons 1972/73, 1986/87 and 1988/89.

Six clubs won the trophy before Pardubice – Liberec four times, Sparta three times, Třinec and Plzeň twice and Zlín and Hradec Králové once. After winning this trophy, Třinec in 2011 and Liberec five years later were the only teams to win the title.

“We are very happy to have won the basic part, because this is a long-term competition. I think that many of our boys have never won this cup, but we remain humble. The most important thing still awaits us and we want to win the next part, ” said striker Tomáš Vondráček, who came to Pardubice at the beginning of December precisely from Karlovy Vary.

“Last time we didn't play a good match against Vítkovice, we had a bit of a chat about it. Even though today it was almost two thirds 0:0, so we had the upper hand and it was only a matter of time before we scored those goals and then we started thinking about it,” praised the former Energie captain.

“Today I returned to the KV Arena for the first time and it was a great feeling. I liked it here a lot and I will always like to come back here. The only thing I regret is that they whistled at me, but there is nothing you can do about it. Mostly it that's how it is, when someone is replaced, he asserts himself against his former club. I'm especially happy that we won today,” added the thirty-two-year-old Vondráček.
