London – A court in Manchester today sentenced a 42-year-old Czech man to almost 13 years in prison for attempting to import a semi-automatic weapon and ammunition into Britain. The British National Crime Agency (NCA) reported on the case on its website.

In April 2018, the Border Guard in Dover discovered a Slovak-made self-loading rifle and 465 cartridges in a van. The driver stated that he did not know about the load. Investigators found traces of the DNA of a 42-year-old Czech on the weapon, who was in his home country at the time, serving a different sentence for theft and other crimes. He flew to Manchester last March, where the police arrested him. He pleaded guilty in court and received a prison sentence of 12 years and nine months.
In connection with this case, Britain has already sentenced another Czech, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison by the Cantenbury court in 2018 for illegal importing firearms.
(The guns and ammunition) had the potential to cause serious injury and death and the group imported enough ammunition to cause untold damage if used on the streets,” said NCA Area Commander Mark Howes.
