Hradec Králové – Man in an apartment building in Klumparova Street in the center of Hradec Králové on Friday poured flammable liquid on the front door of one of the apartments, which he set alight. According to the police, he wanted to kill the residents of the apartment, who formed a family with the man. At the time of the attack, four people were sleeping in the apartment, including two children, no one was injured, the police reported on the website. Firefighters also informed about the case.

Criminal officers accused the forty-two-year-old man of attempted murder and general endangerment. Nobody got hurt. The incident happened on the morning of Friday, March 3. The man is in custody.

“Fortunately, the fire was woken up by one of the children, who woke up the parents crying, who managed to put the fire out. Fortunately, no one was injured. The firefighters who were called discovered that someone started the fire intentionally,” said police spokeswoman Iva Kormošová. Three adults and four minor children usually live in the apartment.

The police found the suspect in his current residence about half a kilometer from the family's apartment. The emergency unit took part in his arrest.

“The emergency unit with a negotiator had to be called because the man was armed with two knives and threatened to commit suicide. The police managed to manage the situation and the man, whose breath test showed over 2, 6 per mille of alcohol, to be detained. With his act, the man threatened death or serious injury to all other residents of the apartment building,” said Kormošová.

If found guilty and convicted, the accused man faces 15 to 20 years in prison or exceptional punishment.
