“Our MQ-9 aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace when it was targeted and engaged by a Russian fighter jet. This resulted in the crash and loss of the MQ-9,” US Air Force Gen. James Hecker, who is on operations in the area.
White House spokesman John Kirby said the incident was “dangerous, unprofessional and risky”.
