“Preliminarily, about six enemy air targets were detected in the airspace of Kyiv. According to the information that is being specified, they were balloons that move in space under the influence of the wind,” the press service of the Kyiv administration said according to the Ukrainska Pravda website.
< p>The city administration assumes that the purpose of launching the balloons was apparently to “reveal and exhaust” Ukrainian air defenses. The wreckage of the downed objects will now be analyzed and then the type and characteristics of the device will be finally determined, writes Ukrainska pravda.
The administration of the metropolis said that the balloons could also carry, in addition to a certain reconnaissance device, so-called corner reflectors, which are means of anti-radiolocation masking.
The Ukrainian media also reported on the occurrence of Russian reconnaissance balloons in Ukrainian airspace a day earlier. Ukrainian Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ihnat said on Tuesday that Russia uses such flying objects to conduct reconnaissance or distract Ukrainian air defenses.
