The new number – exactly 8,006 civilian casualties – published just a few days before the first anniversary of the start of the invasion, which falls on February 24 , represents a noticeable increase compared to the most recent statistics from February 13, which era counted 7,199 civilians killed.

The UN, which includes only verified deaths in its statistics, repeatedly warns that the actual number of civilians killed will probably be “significantly higher”.
