After the arson attack registered in the works of the new Railway Bridge, the governor of Bío Bío, Rodrigo Díaz, criticized and called on the authorities in charge of security and order to have greater intelligence and rigor after what happened. He also indicated that it is “reasonable” to raise the possibility of declaring a State of Emergency in the province of Concepción.

The governor of Bío Bío, Rodrigo Díaz, expressed his concern about the attack arsonist at work on the new railway bridge, where they burned a backhoe on the Concepción waterfront.

The incident occurred before 06:00 this Tuesday, some 800 meters from the Regional Government and two kilometers from the Plaza de Armas.

In conversation with Radio Bío Bío in Concepción, Díaz assured that this type of attack “it harms the development of a much-needed project to have better connectivity on the south bank of the Bío Bío. There are half a million people who need the railway bridge replaced, since it is from the last century”.

He added that “this is an attack against the people of the region from Bío Bío, from San Pedro (de la Paz), from Coronel, from Lota, from the province of Arauco”.

For this reason, he summoned “the authorities that are in charge of order and public security” to have “more intelligence” and greater rigor in his work & # 8221 ;.

According to the governor, it was & # 8220; evident & # 8221; that after a commemorative date for the homicide of Camilo Catrillanca that there was a risk of an attack and that the “place that should have adequate protection were the works where the railway bridge is being built”.

As indicated last week after the attack on the road project on the waterfront, the governor reiterated that “the possibility of declaring a State of Exception in the province of Concepción must be considered.” Let us remember that this measure is currently in force in the provinces of Bío Bío and Arauco.

CChC for attack on railway bridge works

The president of the Chilean Chamber of Construction, CChC, Bernardo Suazo, called on the Government to reinforce security measures in the face of “terrorist” who are arriving in the center of Concepción.

“We sympathize with the pain and fear of the inhabitants of the province of Arauco who have long suffered from this serious scourge, but we are convinced that It is still time to stop and confront terrorism and prevent it from literally reaching the Plaza Independencia de Concepción”, he added.

He also called on the presidential delegate, Daniela Dresdner, to evaluate conscientiously the need to decree a State of Exception in the province of Concepción. “We are with the words of several parliamentarians from the area and the Regional Governor himself that a harsh measure from the beginning is the only way to stop the uninterrupted advance of terrorism in this part of the country. Hopefully the Government can listen to us and access to this measure”, he pointed out.

“We call to protect the infrastructure works that the region and its inhabitants need so much, since they contribute to quality of life, development and prosperity,” he closed.
