An afternoon of partying at home AlphaTauri on the Red Bull Ring track, a somewhat special track for the Faenza team, which is part of the great Austrian group. The two AT02s, in fact, in the mountains of Styria, qualified in sixth and seventh position, laying the foundations for what could be a very important weekend for the team. An important result on a personal level also for Yuki Tsunoda, who is slowly managing to bring his teammate’s performance closer Pierre Gasly.
GP Austria 2021, the starting grid
Pierre Gasly: “Every weekend we are qualifying in similar positions and I am really satisfied: today’s sixth place is another good performance for us, so I would say it was a good day. Over the weekend, for some reason I was not completely comfortable with the car, so qualifying was a bit of an unknown, which is why I am really happy with what I achieved this afternoon. We are the first cars to start with the Softs tomorrow, so strategy will play a key role in the race. We have shown that the car has good pace, so I feel confident“.
Yuki Tsunoda: “I’m really happy with my performance, this is my best qualifying so far. I want to thank the team who managed to keep up with last week and put everything together in the most important moment. Although I didn’t have a trail, my last lap was pretty good so I have to be happy with it. It was really useful for me to have a second consecutive race here in Austria, it allowed me to increase my confidence and I think this is reflected in my performance today. I don’t know what the conditions will be like during tomorrow’s race, but tire management will be crucial to score points, which is what I’m aiming for. “.
