The most surprising news for Formula 1 in these first weeks of summer break comes from Alpine, which with Esteban Ocon had surprisingly won the victory in the last GP before the break, held in Hungary. The French team, protagonist in the Magyar land also with Fernando Alonso – author of a sensational race, ended in fourth position – would have in fact decided in an unexpected way to remove the head of the team’s engineers, Rémi Taffin. In fact, his name, as also highlighted by the French journalist Jean-Michael Desnoues, of AutoHebdo, was removed from the team organization chart.

A fact that certainly amazes, at least for the timing, one week before the splendid weekend in Budapest. Taffin lived an endless career with the Losanga home and was already present in the team at the time of the four world titles won by Fernando Alonso and the French team in the two-year period 2005-2006. From there he obviously made a career, until reaching the position of technical director of the engine area in February 2016. Following his inauguration in July 2020, the new CEO of Renault Luca De Meo he had explained that he would wait some time before making any changes. Now that time seems to have come.

Already before the start of this season, the head of former team principal Cyril Abiteboul had fallen in Alpine, replaced by the figure of Laurent Rossi. At the same time, Davide Brivio joined the team, who came directly from MotoGP, with the role of team manager. Taffin’s departure seems to be channeled in this vein. At this point it will be particularly interesting to see what the next moves of the French management will be.
