Thousands of hectares burned, soil contaminated with harmful substances and more than 80 species of animals in danger of extinction in one of the effects of the war in Ukraine, according to an animal organization denounced, specifying that the Russian army has occupied eight nature reserves and twelve national parks during the invasion.

The animal movement UAnimals reported that more than 80 species of animals are in danger of extinction in Ukraine due to armed attacks from Russia.

“More than 80 Animal species in our country are on the verge of extinction and may completely cease to exist due to Russian aggression. The occupiers deliberately attack natural parks, zoos and shelters, and have already killed more than 10 million animals during the war”, writes the organization on its official Facebook account.

According to the statement, cited by the Unian news agency, Russian troops have occupied eight nature reserves and twelve national parks during the invasion on a large scale.

He adds that 23,286 hectares of forest have burned down as a result of the Russian attacks and that it will take about ten years to restore them.

The same thing happens with the soil, they add, when referring to the 182,880 square meters of land contaminated with harmful substances that negatively affect animals and nature.

In his speech by videoconference last Tuesday at the G20 summit, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky, claimed that Russia has carried out an ecocide in Ukraine.

Six million domestic animals have died and at least 50,000 dolphins and thousands of hectares of forest have been burned, according to the sources.

After the liberation of Kherson, carcasses of murdered animals were found, including gray hamsters, which are listed in the Red Book of endangered species, denounced UAnimals.

Energoatom, the operator Ukraine’s state-owned nuclear power plant, reported in early November that at least 30 blow-ups by dogs, foxes and wild boars were recorded in the past three months at mines placed along the perimeter of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, controlled by the russian forces.
