Luxury in electric format. Audi Skysphere inaugurates a new generation of battery-powered cars from the house of the Four Rings, a concept car that showcases the characteristics that the German brand will bring to the road in future EV models. The stage chosen to debut this manifesto of sustainable mobility is the Monterey Car Week, with the Californian event of Pebble Beach which showed for the first time to the general public the progenitor of a new family of cars including this futuristic electric roadster.
The Audi skysphere is driven by a single electric motor located on the rear axle, capable of deliver 632 hp and a torque of 750 Nm immediately available, with the model having a mass of around 1,800 kilos. Features that allow it to cover the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in just 4 seconds. The battery pack is positioned behind the passenger compartment and has a capacity of 80 kWh, thus guaranteeing a range of approximately 500 km. Audi’s concept car it boasts a latest generation adaptive suspension system, as well as a “by-wire” steering that allows you to act on the two axles, with a variable steering setting using the controls inside the passenger compartment.
Another distinctive feature of Audi skysphere is the variable wheelbase: the German car manufacturer has not described this innovative element in detail but from the information provided it can be understood that a part of the bodywork and chassis slides thus reducing the size of the car that can pass. from 4.94 meters in GT mode to 5.19 meters in Grand Touring mode, when the driver chooses to activate the level 4 autonomous driving systems. In this case the car takes control of the gear and the cockpit, made with inspiration from the world of Art Decò, pedals and steering wheel retract or can be removed for an even more comfortable journey. The driving position is enveloping, with a digital cockpit and a touch screen on the dashboard 142 cm wide and 18 cm high. The elongated shape with the generously sized bonnet, the sculpted sides and the truncated tail, with the aerodynamic 23 ”wheels complete the picture of a futuristic car that anticipates a not too distant future.
