The messaging platform more popularof the world recently launched a new feature highly demanded by users: WhatsApp already allows you to take photos or videos with a single view or that disappear from chat once the recipient has opened them.
According to the company, this new feature increase privacy users, but has a problem: unlike Instagram, Snapchat or Telegram, WhatsApp it will not notify the sender if the receiver has taken a screenshot of the single-view media element.
In this way, the new function, which apparently does not represent any inconvenience since it is only recommended use it with trusted people, could create risky situations such as extortion or sexual harassment.
The company ensures that the new unique display function allows send disappearing photos and videos, which gives users greater control over their privacy.
WhatsApp “See Once” allows you to send self-destructing photos and videos.
WhatsApp assured in this regard that the contents that are seen only once and then self-delete are protected by end-to-end encryption, like the chats and the rest of the content that is shared in them.
However, this same function could reveal sensitive documentation, such as a photo of the DNI or photos of a sexual nature and create a false sense of securityespecially among minors, who tend to be less aware of the risk of sending intimate photos or videos through social networks.
WhatsApp’s “Single View” could promote grooming or also known as cyberbullying to minors.
The adult could create a bond of trust with a minor through this tool and ask for photos or videos because theoretically, after viewing, it disappears, but a capture can be made and it is not registered or notified to the issuer.
The “single view” is available to all WhatsApp users who have updated to the latest version of the application.
