Eleven years after his first appearance in the MCU, Black Widow gets his first solo movie, although we soon discover that he has his family to carry out the most personal mission of his life. It is a debt paid by Marvel with which we all came out winning, but which certainly could give more.
It feels like that gift to the fans that it was supposed to be, as well as the recognition that Scarlett Johansson and her character deserved. The Russian spy managed to stand out in an all-powerful group despite her lack of superhuman abilities. On the other hand, he made up for it with cunning, lethality, and a human frailty that made the danger plausible.
Marvel Studios had to look back – where the tragic past of Black Widow was glimpsed between the lines – to give us a story that closes a stage for the protagonist, but is not limited to just that. It actually expands the MCU with new characters and weaves the foundations for what will be new stories (Yelena Belova and the post-credit scene).
Specifically, we see how the past of the spy reaches its present so that it can be vindicated before its last sacrifice in Avengers: endgame. A kind of The Winter Soldier that suffers from the same schematic plot, but with even less spectacularity, sense of intrigue or ambition. Without problems, the bravest and riskiest thing about the film lies in its opening credits.

After 20 films between its debut and its own film in the MCU, the franchise had already perfected its winning formula. That is why the film follows the guidelines of the manual without major surprises and lacks the factor that sets it apart from other titles. Yelena Belova and Black Widow’s enlightened past may be the most comforting once the viewing is over.
In short, it does not stand out as a spy movie, or action or even Marvel Studios. The fans’ wait for the film to see the light was long and we can say that it was worth it only for the unconditional. For the rest of mortals, it is one more chapter of the greatest film serial of all time.
