Brussels – On the way to the normalization of relations between Serbia and Kosovo, progress has been noted, the head of diplomacy of the European Union, Josep Borrell, announced today. But another meeting is needed, which will take place in March, Borrell added after meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

“Progress has been made, but work still needs to be done to ensure that what has been agreed is implemented,” Borrell said, according to AFP. The Serbian president described the meeting as “difficult”. According to him, the next meeting will take place on March 18 in North Macedonia.
In recent months, Western officials have been exerting intense diplomatic pressure on Belgrade and Pristina to accept the originally Franco-German plan for Kosovo, which it unilaterally declared in 2008 independence from Serbia. It does not recognize independence and considers Kosovo to be part of its territory.
From excerpts of the plan published by the media, it follows that Serbia and Kosovo would not formally recognize each other, but would accept each other's state existence within existing borders. Serbia would also have to stop preventing Kosovo from becoming a member of international organizations. The plan envisages the creation of a territorial entity in Kosovo with a majority Serb population, which will enjoy a certain degree of autonomy. Vučić has repeatedly expressed his willingness to compromise on the issue of Kosovo in the past.
