A 63-year-old driver remains waiting for a possible surgical intervention, after being assaulted in the middle of a journey in the commune of Talcahuano, in the Bío Bío region. The workers fear going through illegal taps at any time of the day.

It was at the beginning of the day last Friday, at 7:30 in the morning, in front of the Gaete de Talcahuano population, where a criminal equipped with what would be a pick, pounced on José Omar Manríquez, a renowned driver of the Mi Expreso line.

The man just wanted to take the box, despite being a schedule with almost no collection. A video from the security camera shows the violent struggle with the antisocial.

José Manríquez recounted part of his experience and said that he even hit himself on the shoulder, on the irons. With the adrenaline I felt nothing (…)”.

The driver ended up with an injured shoulder and is awaiting an eventual operation. Rubén Barbieri, legal representative of the Mi Expreso line, expressed his solidarity with the situation of the driver.

“(…) We only have to be careful, the drivers, when we are working, but crime is already unleashed,” Barbieri said.

The event occurred in front of the Gaete sector shots, where the offender failed to take the loot.

Alexis, a colleague of the victim, assured that there is fear among drivers when it comes to passing through places of illegal settlements.

Unfortunately, we pass through a sector that belongs to no one, which is the Gaete population. Sometimes at night it’s too dark, one can possibly perceive who’s coming down, but not who’s going to come up”, the co-worker said.

So far the driver has been robbed about 3 times, and for the moment he is on medical leave awaiting a medical pronouncement.
