Salimu Chazama was dominating the fight against compatriot Alexander Likande when everything spilled over. The combat turned into a battle. All against all. The presentation judge had to flee the ring when the situation was already unmanageable.
The scene occurred at the M1 Center Point in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Chazama, a 26-year-old experienced fighter who in his career accumulated a few fights in different countries in the region, had knocked down his opponent during the seventh round. They had exchanged blows in a confrontation that at times seemed street. Likande, exhausted and shaken after receiving a left and a right to the face, leaned on the loose ropes and fell out of the bounds of the ring . The crowd raved about the scene.
A person from the public helped him re-enter, while the judge performed the statutory count. While showing symptoms of shock, she let him restart the fight . Chazama cornered him, gave him a few more blows, and from Likande's corner an auxiliary jumped to stop the fight . He could have thrown in the towel, but he decided to stop himself the punishment of his pupil with a push to the boxer with blue shorts. He removed him from the scene and reproached the referee for not finishing the fight.
The man – identified as Yamikani Mkandawire according to the Malawi Boxing News site – turned his back on Destroyer Chazama and he could not bear his gesture: he ran at full speed and gave him a blow that sparked the pitched battle . Likande reacted, but also a dozen of those present in the place. They got into the ring and stirred up the evening organized by Keba Boxing Promotions.

The decision was to end the presentation and declare Chazama the winner by KO, despite the disagreement of his opponent. “I hope everyone has seen that. I dominated the fight but suddenly other people decided in their own way . I gave him some boxing lessons. I want a rematch but in a neutral location,” The Cage Likande noted according to local site The Times Group .
“I am excited about the victory. Likande was tough for me, but I was calm as I used my experience to win the fight, ”said the 26-year-old winner, who stretched his record to 14 wins, 5 losses and 1 draw.
However, the last word has not been said since the president of the professional boxing control board of that country, Lonzeo Zimba, clarified that they are dissatisfied with what happened between the athletes. “As a board, we will take action on some of the boxers who were involved in the fight . Boxing is a sport, so people should be able to accept the results, “he said about what happened on this boxing evening, which was the first in that country after almost 10 months of standing due to the coronavirus pandemic.
