Work on the Aylmer-Whittom Park redevelopment project in Sept-Îles should be completed around July 28.
The work, which began last July, suffered several delays.
The park was originally scheduled to open in the fall of 2022, but the work could not be completed until winter. They resumed on May 1, 2023 two weeks late.
Due to the melting snow this year, there was a lot of runoff on the soft ground. [Builders] need to add culverts that weren't in the original plan. So that delayed the schedule by two weeks, explains the interim director general of the City of Sept-Îles, Michel Tardif.

The Municipality asks citizens to avoid to circulate in the park under construction by the end of the work.
The budget of $1.9 million, as announced last summer, should this time be respected. The City initially valued the project at $1.25 million.

The City of Sept-Îles is returning to the drawing board for two renovation projects infrastructure, namely that of a sanitary block at Lac des Rapides and a skateboard park. The decision was endorsed Tuesday at the city council.
The modules of the skateboard park in Sept-Îles must allow fans of skateboards, scooters and bicycles to practice their sport.
The Municipality has canceled its project for a sanitary block at Lac des Rapides, including the construction, which amounted to approximately $1.3 million.
This first version has been abandoned due to the discrepancy between the cost estimate and the bids received.

With the new project that will eventually be presented to elected officials, we want to ensure that all of this respects [environmental] standards at a reasonable cost, adds the acting director general.
Regarding the future skateboard park in Sept-Îles, the municipal council has approved a new evaluation system in view of a second call for tenders for plans and specifications for the development of the site.
The first call for tenders had remained unanswered, reports the City.
The project for this park comes from a citizen mobilization which began in 2021, recalls the mayor of Sept-Îles , Steeve Beaupré.
