Covid-19, Zandvoort: capacity drops to 67% | FormulaPassion.it

There will certainly not be 100,000 spectators in Zandvoort on 5 September when the Dutch F1 Grand Prix kicks off, an event that has not been on the calendar since 1985. The fact that Max Verstappen went on vacation not as championship leader to the advantage of Lewis Hamilton has nothing to do with the nuanced prospect of registering a record-breaking audience. The Dutch government, in fact, has today established that in light of the pandemic linked to the Coronavirus, events cannot predict more than 67% the capacity of the venue hosting the event in question. However, a more permissive decision than what will happen in Monza a week later with a maximum of 50% of the facility open to the public.

A year ago the impossibility of opening the doors to the public prompted the organizers of the Dutch Grand Prix to postpone the appointment to 2022, this time the race will take place instead. The number one of the organizing committee Jan Lammers in fact, he pointed out that: “For me, the glass is two-thirds full. The three companies behind the organization of the Dutch Grand Prix (Circuit Zandvoort, SportVibes and TIG Sports), have decided to invest in the future of F1 in the Netherlands. The ambition to organize the largest Ultimate Race Festival in the world remains the primary goal for the next few years. This year the party will be in a minor tone, but there will be plenty of orange in the stands as the backdrop for the battle to win the F1 world championship ”.

The tickets had all already been pre-sold, so there will be 1 in 3 spectators who will not be able to cross the gates of Zandvoort. Ticket holders will be informed via email on Wednesday 18th August (at the latest) if they will be able to attend the race this year or if they will have to wait another 12 months. For fans who unfortunately will not be able to attend the race, there is the possibility of using their ticket (or their tickets) for the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix or to request a refund of the tickets already purchased.
