Crytek wants to focus on the performance of the console versions, which will not be native to PS5 and Xbox Series X | S.
Crysis remastered had a rather troubled premiere on consoles when it debuted a year ago. And heading into the launch of the Crysis Remastered Trilogy in a few months, Crytek doesn’t want to make the same mistakes. The remasters of Crysis 2 and 3 will not offer ray tracing options on consoles, not even on the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, in order to focus on the stability and performance of the game. But nevertheless, on PC it will be available ray tracing.
This is confirmed the specialized medium Digital Foundry, after interviewing the studio and having access to these new remasters. “Crytek has withdrawn the performance, fidelity and ray tracing options from the console versions and will focus on finding the balance appropriate between the fidelity and performance in a single mode [de ejecución]”says the aforementioned medium. As with the first game, the remasters of Crysis 2 and 3 will not be native on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. The next-gen consoles will run the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions, respectively, for backward compatibility with subtle improvements over their performance.
And this leaves us with another very interesting piece of information. Digital Foundry confirms that Crysis 2 Remastered runs at 1440p on PS5, with a yield very close to “about 60 FPS fixed. “This, again, based on the code of the game in PS4 Pro. The specialized medium has not yet had access to the version of the competition, but they mention that it is to be expected “higher resolution on Xbox Series X”. As a final detail, DF has also witnessed the Nintendo Switch versions of Crysis 2 and 3 Remastered in action.
Both remasters seek to offer 30 FPS on the hybrid console from Nintendo, and “just as we thought about Crysis Remastered, we were quite impressed” by its performance on the Switch. Crysis Trilogy Remastered will be available this same 2021, on a date to be specified from last quarter of the year. Its creators published yesterday a video comparison of Crysis between Xbox 360 and Xbox Series X, and if you have not yet tried the remastering of the first game in the series, here is our analysis of Crysis Remastered on PC.
