Teachers from the Escuela Republica de México in Curacautín, La Araucanía region, rejected -through a statement- the installation of a military base next to the establishment.
The foregoing, after members of the faculty council summoned to an extraordinary session, in which they were informed of the installation of a settlement for 90 military personnel in the premises of the municipal boarding school, a place adjacent to the educational campus.
This situation was rejected by the teachers of this campus, who pointed out that “it is a violent scenario” given that it distances them from any educational project based on respect, peace and love .
In addition, they see it as a pedagogical risk to have military personnel with war weapons and tanks nearby, also pointing out that this situation has polarized the opinions of establishment officials .
The deputy who requested this measure, Juan Carlos Beltrán, supported this ordinance and pointed out that it is not up to him to define the place or date of installation of this base.
< p>This military settlement is operating due to a wave of criminal acts that occurred in the last week on the routes that connect Curacautín with Lautaro and Victoria.
