Sydney – In the second game of the preparatory tournament of four countries in Australia, the Czech female soccer players beat Jamaica 3:2 and scored points for the first time after the initial loss of 0:4 against the home team. The match against the participants of this year's world championship was decided in the 90th minute by substitute Alena Pěčková. Coach Karel Rada's team will end the Cup of Nations with a duel with Spain on Wednesday.
Although the Czechs, unlike the Jamaicans, did not qualify for the world championship, they still entered the match as favorites. Radov's charges had a permanent advantage and after the converted penalty by Andrea Stašková and a goal by Klára Cahynová in the set-up, they dominated the first half 2:1.
However, after changing sides, the rivals were able to equalize for the second time and it seemed that the match was headed for a draw. However, in the last minute of regular time, after the cooperation of two alternating players, Pěčková tapped the ball into the open goal on the back post and decided with her first national team goal in her second start.
“In the match, we were the more dominant team and we had the game under control most of the time. We took the lead, which was of course great. Then we should have been stronger on the ball, but on the contrary we made an unnecessary loss, the opponent went into an open defense and equalized at 1:1,” the FAČR website quoted coach Rada as saying.< /p>
“Even though we scored a goal just before the end of the half to make it 2:1, the opponent gave us big problems after the change of sides. The Jamaicans equalized for the second time, but we showed a lot of will and in the end we took the match back to our side ,” added the former Czech representative.
