Senators Matías Walker and Ximena Rincón sent a letter to the committee of the Christian Democracy bench to integrate the body, but as independents. Let’s remember that a few months ago they both resigned from the phalanx and are now forming a new political party. However, the committee said that “the request is incompatible with their convictions”, so they decided not to accept it.

This Thursday there was evidence of a split within the committee of senators of the Christian Democrats, after they rejected the request of parliamentarians Ximena Rincón and Matías Walker to join the body, but as independents.< /strong>

Let us remember that the aforementioned senators resigned from the phalanx, in order to form their own party called “Democrats”.

In a letter sent by the Committee of Senators of the DC, to the secretary of the Upper House, Raúl Guzmán, it is read that: “We consider that said request is politically incompatible with our convictions and having both renounced the Christian Democracy, it becomes impossible to incorporate them into common work, even more so when it is public knowledge that they are currently being President and Vice President of a political party in formation”.

As a result of this, they estimate that & #8220;Being on the same Committee is inconvenient, which is why we have decided not to accept your request”.

Finally, they asked the Secretary to “certify that according to the Senate regulations there is no agreement in the DC Committee to accept as members the Independent Senators Rincón and Walker in its conformation, and therefore, all the administrative procedures that establish that in the immediate future, the DC Committee will continue only with Senators who are members of the party and with Senator Yasna Provoste Campillay as Head of it”.

DC against Walker and Rincón

It is worth mentioning that this issue was addressed during a session of the Senate, where Senator Matías Walker said that “without any intention of entering into controversy, we have been notified today of this letter, by means of which I and Senator Rincón are expelled from the committee that we are part of”.

“We are going to make the statements at the committee meeting. What is set out on the table is that this issue goes to the committee, because this can have administrative effects and political effects that I am interested in which can be discussed in that instance”, the legislator added.

Then Regarding this, Senator Iván Moreira (UDI) asked that the term “expel” which Walker used.

It was here that Senator Provoste read the aforementioned letter and stressed that the “request is incompatible with our convictions, given that both have already renounced the Christian Democrats (&# 8230;). It is much clearer that it is incompatible, that they can be integrated, I think they are completely different words”.
