In 1982, the rumors around the death of Grace Kelly in a road accident have paid the chronic. One of them was targeting Stephanie of Monaco, is accused of having been behind the wheel of the Rover princely.
It is a drama in which the princely family of Monaco still remembers. September 13, 1982, Grace Kelly was leaving Roc Agel for driving her daughter, Stéphanie de Monaco, an internship artistic. The latter hoped to integrate the workshop styling from the house of Dior. The mother-daughter duo climbed aboard the Rover 3500, the first driving and the second as a passenger, while the rear of the vehicle was full of clothes. This getaway, first full of hope and expectations, has turned to the drama. Shortly before 10 o’clock in the morning, on the road 37 connecting Monaco to la Turbie (and where the ex-actress had delivered one of the memorable scenes of his former career, in The hand at the collar), the car has been off the road. After a fall of 40 meters, crashed in the parking lot of a villa belonging to a certain Sesto Lequio, the one through whom the scandal quickly came.
Unconscious and the victim of a cerebral hemorrhage, Grace Kelly has been operated before gasping its last breath at the age of 52 years at the Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace, on 14 September 1982. For its part, Stéphanie of Monaco is out with a cervical fracture and a multitude of psychological damage. Traumatized, thrown into mourning following the tragic death of his mother, the princess at the age of 17 years (and who is not the holder of a driving licence) was not the end of his sentences. Because managing to get out of the vehicle by the front door-left, driver’s side, it was quickly the target of a terrible rumor saying that she was at the wheel of the Rover. Sesto Lequio had enlarged the role of the teenager. With several newspapers, he had even hammered to have himself released Stephanie of Monaco by the left door. The truth revealed in the great day, 32 years after the facts
We had to wait until 2014 for that truth to be restored. In his book, baptized Grace of the princess uprooted, the journalist Bertrand Tessier has worked on the investigation around the fatal accident of Grace Kelly. By getting in touch with the former captain and company commander of Chin, Roger Bencze, reading of minutes and concentrating on close-up photos of the damaged car, the author concluded that Stéphanie of Monaco could not get out only by the driver’s door. As a result, the right-hand side, and therefore the passenger, the Rover was smashed on the ground. “Not only has she seen her mother die, but she has been accused of his death“, regretted Bertrand Tessier in an interview given to Paris Match.
