Prague – Today, MPs should approve controversial changes in the selection of members of the boards of Czech Television (ČT) and Czech Radio (ČRo). In the second reading, they could discuss the amendment on the adjustment of support for refugees from Ukraine, which has been facing a Russian military invasion for almost a year.

In the election of councilors of Czech Television and Czech Radio, the government amendment involves the Senate, which is supposed to occupy a third of the seats. The definition of organizations that can submit candidate proposals is to be tightened. Opposition MPs consider the proposed changes to be expedient and blame the government camp for trying to control a pair of public media. Coalition politicians, on the other hand, claim that the aim of the amendment is to strengthen their resilience. A longer debate is expected again, after which the opposition is unlikely to push through the proposal to reject the draft.
Amendment of laws called lex Ukraine tightens the conditions for entitlement to a humanitarian benefit, which should be more targeted, from July. The payment of the so-called solidarity allowance for the accommodation of Ukrainians with temporary protection in households and the conditions of free emergency accommodation are also awaiting adjustments.
As early as April, the draft is supposed to transfer assistance centers to help Ukraine from the regions to the Ministry of the Interior. In addition, it will also enact, for example, the registration of all employment agreements of Ukrainian refugees and expand the possibilities of obtaining the qualification of a speech therapist due to the growth in demand for these services in connection with the influx of child refugees.
