Casting for the main boy's role lasted more than a year, in the end the director and producer Dagmar Sedláčková chose the non-actor David Vodstrčil out of 300 boys. The representative of the main female role, Aňa Geislerová, read the script for the first time five years ago, and according to her, the power of the story has matured over time. The film also stars Jana Plodková, Juliana Brutovská Olhová, Giandomenico Cupaiuolo and Oscar de Summa.

Kirchnerová will visit Cannes for the third time. Two years ago, she was the first from the Czech Republic to succeed at the festival with Karavan in the Cinéfondation – L'Atelier project, which gives young creators the opportunity to advance their projects to international distribution. For the first time, her participation in Cannes ensured the release of her student film Bába, which eventually won in its section. Bába's success in the future secured her the release of her currently filmed full-length debut in the festival program.

The story of Caravan is not set in Italy by chance. The southern region of Calabria is a kind of dream destination for the main character Ester, a place of freedom and freedom. At the same time, however, the south of Italy is generally a place of great poverty, a place without rules, where few people have normal jobs and many residents flee. Not even the heroine can offer this place a new future on her journey in a caravan with her beloved and complicated son David.

Zuzana Kirchnerová is a graduate of FAMU and the Faculty of Law of Charles University. In recent years, she has devoted herself mainly to documentary production. She filmed several documentary series for Czech Television, including The Brave Five, which deals with the integration of mentally disabled people into society.
