A macabre homicide alerted residents of 40th Road near 100th St. in Corona, in Queens, New York. A 35-year-old man was stabbed and disemboweled, apparently by his roommate. The murdered man was identified as José González, an Ecuadorian migrant who had been living in the United States for more than a decade. González, a native of Azogues, 430 kilometers south of Quito, will now be repatriated by his relatives, who are heartbroken by the news.
The New York Police Department reported that the first investigations classify the crime as a homicide, which would have been perpetrated by González’s new roommate, during a fight after both had consumed alcohol.
González’s inert body was found by the landlord who had gone to collect the rent. According to the Daily Mail, the victim’s face and abdomen were covered in dried blood and exposed intestines. The man was lying face down on his bed.
According to police sources, González was repeatedly stabbed in the neck, shoulder, arms and stomach. The wounds were so deep that his intestines hung from his body.
González’s niece, Erica Sumba, spoke with the Daily News and reported that González was the father of a 17-year-old teenager in Ecuador. According to Sumba, his uncle faithfully sent money to Ecuador to support his son: “He has a son, and he was divorced. Our whole family is in Ecuador,” she said. “He was very responsible. He was a great worker. He faithfully sent money home to support his 17-year-old son,” he said.

Through tears, Sumba also said: “I feel really terrible about what happened to him. It is my only family in this country. I have no words .”
Sumba also stated that González “ was already dead when he was found in his room. I don’t know anything about the Colombian”, referring to the new roommate. The victim’s neighbors said that González and his new partner drank a lot.
The residents of the sector were surprised by the homicide, according to Katherine Aguayza , 25, who lives down the block: “This came as a surprise to me. I heard it last night and it blew me away.” However, other neighbors suspected that “something” was going on in the building where González lived. In the place the tenants rent individual rooms but share bathrooms and kitchens. Eric Arias, who lives across the street, told theDaily News that “the only action is from that building. I’m not surprised something happened. There are a lot of people coming and going.”
The last time González was seen was last Sunday at 3:00 p.m., according to the neighbors. One of them reported to police that he had seen red liquid coming out of Gonzalez’s door, but thought it was a spilled alcoholic beverage. That liquid would have been cleaned by the murderer a day later.
The New York police are waiting to question the victim’s roommate and so far no one has been arrested .
González arrived in the Big Apple 13 years ago and worked in restaurants and construction, according to what his niece told local media.
Although murders and shootings have decreased since 2021 in New York, common crime has increased by 38.4% during 2022. According to data from the NYPD, felony assaults increased by 18 .4%, rapes grew by 16.1% and robberies increased by 39.3% in the Big Apple.
