San Diego (USA) – At least eight people died overnight today off the coast of US San Diego after their two boats capsized. This was reported by the ABC station with reference to the responding rescuers. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the boat crews are suspected of smuggling. According to the AP agency, seven people are still missing.

Rescuers received the first call for help on Saturday at approximately 23:30 local time (today 7:30 CET). The caller said she was on a fishing boat with 15 people and saw another fishing boat with eight people overturned. Authorities located the vessel using GPS on the caller's phone and upon arrival found two boats upside down and bodies floating in the water.

A total of eight bodies have been found, with thick fog complicating the search for more. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the search will continue at dawn, when helicopters could be involved. Figures on the number of people on board and missing remain unclear, as several different authorities and organizations are working at the scene of the accident.
