Elizabeth II will deliver Friday, may 8, a new televised speech to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second world War. A milestone moment for the queen, who at nearly 70 years of reign, has not granted a single interview.

It is from his royal abode that she will deliver his fifth speech, and that, 75 years after the one that had delivered her father George VI, to celebrate the end of the war. At the time, aged 18 years, Elizabeth II had itself participated in the war effort with the number 230 873, as an auxiliary in the army reserve, where she learned how to drive trucks, ambulances and repair of the engines. And the celebration that had followed the evening of the Victory, remains for her, “the evening’s most memorable [his] life”, as she had entrusted him to his mother.
