Inside the trailer for Eternalsreleased yesterday we learned that the film will feature Celestials. If before we could have assumed that they would have had a perhaps marginal role, apparently this does not seem to be the case.

Indeed, in the middle of the video an entire shot from the bottom up shows us one, Arishem the Judge, in all its divine grandeur. But who are the Celestials, exactly? According to the Marvel Comics, they are an ancient race of cosmic entities extremely powerful, anthropomorphic in appearance possessing vast abilities of manipulating matter and energy.

During their travels between the planets they conducted experiments with populations, provoking, among others, the birth of the Eternals and the Deviants. Inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’ve met the Celestials before. Three times, to be more precise: in the two Guardians of the Galaxy directed by James Gunn.

In the first film, the location Knowhere where the guardians head to deal with the Collector is actually all that remains of the head of a Celestial, which has long since become a mining colony. A little further on, while the Collector explains what the Infinity Stones are, we see the colossal Eson the Researcher use the Power Gem to destroy a planet.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 we have Ego the Living Planet. To be honest, he’s not really a Celestial in the Marvel comics, but he’s been portrayed as such in the MCU. Ego explains to Peter Quill that he is not a real deity, jokingly saying “god with a lowercase “d”“.

Returning to Eternals, the first promotional images featured the Celestials. In the figure above we can see in the background Hargen the Meter all to the right, while the farthest to the center seems to be Nezarr the Calculator.

We still do not know if the other 2 will be presented in the film, but inside the trailer we can see the aforementioned Arishem, who apparently will be in command of the Celestials, and what seems to be Jeremiah the Analyzer. What role will they play in the film? Villain? Background characters? And above all, could their presence lead to Galactus in the MCU in the future? We remember that Eternals it will be released at the cinema on November 3rd.
