The secretary of Internal Security from the United States, Alejandro Mayorkas, met this Friday with migrant families who were separated during the president’s administration Donald trump as a consequence of the “zero tolerance” policy implemented by the Republican.
The meeting took place virtually with parents who were finally reunited with their children thanks to the efforts of the Interagency Working Group for Family Reunification, prior court orders and the support of non-governmental organizations.
Mayorkas and the director of the Family Reunification Working Group, Michelle Brané, listened to the stories of the families “about their experiences of being cruelly separated under the policy of ‘zero tolerance’ of the previous administration,” detailed the Department of Homeland Security on a short information card.
“They recognized the pain and trauma these families are experiencing. They also conveyed this administration’s commitment to identify a long-term status option for families and its ongoing efforts to ensure that family separations never happen again, ”the agency added in this regard.
