The Pact european green defended by the president of the european Commission Ursula von der Leyen could emerge strengthened from the crisis health.
Wednesday in Brussels, the Commission presented the strategy for the agricultural part of this Compact, green, dubbed the ” fork to fork “, combined with another proposal, she on biodiversity.
For Frans Timmermans, executive vice president,
The measures presented are intended to accelerate the ecological transition, with always the goal of the Pact green, a european economy that is carbon neutral by 2050.
“Halting the loss of biodiversity is an imperative “, according to Frans Timmermans, has announced the transformation of at least 30 % of the land and of the european seas in protected areas. At least 10 % of the agricultural land should be transformed into a more varied countryside, while the primary forest should be protected.
The different programs will be powered by an envelope of 20 billion euros a year.
These environmental commitments are found in the agricultural strategy of the commission, with two ambitions encrypted : it is to reduce by half the use of pesticides and 20 % that of fertiliser by 2030, and to boost the development of organic agriculture to the tune of 25 % of the area exploited (against 7.5% on average currently).
In fact, the implementation of such measures will need to be validated by way of legislation. The first quarter of 2021 is envisaged for the passage of this step.
