London – In the basic group A of the final tournament of the Billie Jean King Cup, the Czech tennis players will face the defending champions Switzerland and, just like last year, the United States of America. Today's lottery in London determined the difficult group, which the organizers of the competition called the “group of death”, for the team of captain Petr Pála.

The final tournament will be played from November 7 to 12 in Seville. The winner of the four groups of three will always advance to the semi-finals. Last year in Glasgow, the Czech female tennis players defeated the USA and Poland in the group 2:1 and in the semi-finals they were not enough for Switzerland, which subsequently won this team competition for the first time in history after winning the final over Australia.
The Czech Republic advanced to the final tournament thanks to the April victory over Ukraine in the qualifying duel played on neutral ground in Belek. The American women defeated Austria and the Swiss women, like the defeated finalists the Australian women, were certain to participate in the final tournament.
Just like last year, the two most successful countries of the competition formerly known as the Fed Cup will compete in the group. The USA are the record holders with 18 trophies, the Czech team is in second place in the historical table with 11 trophies.
In Group B, Australia, Kazakhstan and Slovenia will meet in Seville in the fall, Group C consists of the home team Spain, Canada and Poland and France, Italy and Germany will play in Group D.
