Prague – Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) will discuss today the changes that should eliminate deficiencies in the setting of entrance exams for secondary schools with Minister of Education Mikuláš Bek (STAN) and representatives of the Association of Regions. According to an earlier statement, the Prime Minister wants to find long-term and short-term solutions to the problems the system is facing, among other things due to the strong population years. Similar to last year, there is an overcrowding of people interested in studying at gymnasiums, especially in Prague and the Central Bohemian Region, as well as in Brno. According to some politicians, the change should be brought about by the digitization of applying for studies. According to others, the state should simultaneously set the limits of general education.

This year, a record 116,031 children registered for the secondary school leaving exams. This is a quarter more than six years ago, when the centrally administered exams were held for the first time. This year, due to the strong population year, the interest in secondary education in some regions was enormous and many ninth graders have not yet been accepted to any school. For example, in Prague, even applicants who, with the same number of points in another region, would have gotten into the desired school without difficulty in the first round of exams, often failed.
Many unaccepted applicants still had a chance to get into the chosen school on appeal, others put their hope in the second rounds of the admission procedure, which are gradually announced by schools with vacancies .
Parents of schoolchildren wrote a petition and turned to Minister Bek and other politicians with an open letter, demanding a change in the uniform entrance exams for secondary schools with matriculation. They want the digitization of the admission procedure and the abolition of the obligation for schools to accept students based on the results of didactic tests from the state organization Cermat.
