SOPFEU firefighters and municipal firefighters are currently fighting a forest fire near Route 397, in the La Morandière sector.

Planes -tankers will crisscross the area in the coming hours, if this is not already the case, to extinguish the fire, which does not threaten any building for the moment, according to Mélanie Morin, prevention and communications for the Society for the Protection of Forests against Fire (SOPFEU).

“Seven wildland firefighters are at work with the helicopter. We have also requested two tanker planes, which should be there shortly. For now, the fire only threatens from the forest. There is no threat to the road or infrastructure at this time,” said Ms. Morin.

SOPFEU workers also managed to contain a fire which has been raging since Saturday east of Lebel-sur-Quévillon.

The flames have damaged 79 hectares of forest, making it one of the the largest since the beginning of the forest fire season in Quebec.

“No need for air tankers at this time. The work is going well with the ground crews, the helicopter to do the watering and the heavy equipment to create fire breaks,” said Mélanie Morin.
