“After a series of brief hospital stays, former President of the United States Jimmy Carter today decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and is receiving palliative care in lieu of further medical procedures,” the brief statement said.
According to the foundation, Carter has the full support of his family and medical team in his decision. “The Carter family requests privacy during this time and is grateful for the concern shown by his admirers,” the statement said.
Carter served as president from 1977 to 1981 and is the oldest living head of the United States. He has had several health complications. He underwent head surgery in 2019 and fractured his pelvis in a fall at his home in the same year. Last July, the former president celebrated his 76th wedding anniversary with his 95-year-old wife, Rosalynn Carter.
