There is a little more than a year, the saga Game of Thrones ended up on our screens. The long-awaited ending to a series that we will be made to vibrate for several years, but many fans have found frustrating. A feeling that could be strengthened when we know that movies were originally planned to complete the saga. But, while we now expect the spin-offs, some players seem to always have things to say. This is the case of Clarice Van Houten, who played Mélisandre, the red witch.
Game of Thrones, time to settle accounts
When asked by the site Insider, Clarice Van Houten has expressed on a number of topics. The first is that of the nudity of its main character, as Emilia Clarke has already been done in the past.
I asked myself : ‘Why is it that this scene was to be filmed naked ? Why was it normal ?
A reflection that would be born out of the emergence of the movement #MeToo and the “male gaze” (the fact that the female characters are filmed at an angle male). If it specifies that the nude can be understood in an artistic dimension, this should not be systematic.
Less consensual, Clarice Van Houten has also tackled the… fans. Recognizing that the end of the saga Game of Thrones was ” awkwardness “, she thinks that the critics are primarily related to too high expectations of the fans. Result ? They would be ungrateful.
If people have been disappointed to this point, it is because the previous seasons were really excellent. Suddenly, it looks like ingratitude. Yes, people have spent an extraordinary time, and therefore they can only be disappointed by an ending which may not correspond perfectly to their expectations. […] I find it incredible, that people are annoyed behind their computer and sway of “die bitch, die !”, I am fascinated by these behaviors. It goes much further than simply being a fan. This is extremism. This is scary.
