Overweight people, especially young people, are choosing surgery to reduce the size of their stomach, however this procedure is not guaranteed. However, a healthy diet should be followed the warning of the Peruvian College of Nutrition (CNP).

Dean of the CNP, Lic. Antonio Castillo Carrera, stated that it became fashionable at a time of the pandemic, many young people opted for bariatric surgery as an alternative to weight loss.

However, he explains, these steps are aimed at people who are obese and not overweight, that is, overweight. Although many celebrities have opted for surgery. But in the case of young people, they will prefer nutritional assessment and follow-up.

Antonio Castillo recalled that these surgeries are irreversible and that patients must follow a strict nutrition regimen to lose weight and stay stable. Because if a person thinks that his stomach has decreased, he can eat whatever he wants, he is wrong.

What can happen is that you gain weight and intolerance to the food you eat, leading to eating disorders, including food tolerance and digestion problems like acid reflux. “Because your digestive system will never be the same.”

The CNP Dean recommends that if you want to lose weight in a healthy way, it should be done in a sustainable, adequate and personal way, which is obtained through a nutrition consultation with a nutritionist. It requires the patient’s commitment to adequate diet and exercise under the supervision of a professional nutritionist.
