The exit of Maverick Vinales from Yamaha’s plans for the 2022 season, one year earlier than the natural contractual deadline, ignited the rider market for both the second bike in the Iwata factory team. For weeks the favorite seems to be Franco Morbidelli, who would leave Petronas to join Quartararo. Waiting for Valentino Rossi’s decision, Razlan Razali, patron of the Malaysian satellite team, is aware that he will have to go in search of one or two centaurs for next season.
In recent days, two names had emerged of two riders linked to Yamaha in Superbike, those of Razlan Razgatlioglu and Garrett Gerloff. The Turk removed himself from the candidates by signing a two-year renewal to stay with Iwata in the production derivatives, and so did the 25-year-old Texan today, too, officially extending the agreement with Yamaha Motor Europe until the end of 2022.
“I am really excited to have signed this contract with Yamaha to continue with them next year“, Explained in the official statement Gerloff, adding:”In the last year and a half I have had a great time in Europe and I am really happy with the progress made by myself, the GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team and the Yamaha R1. This season we have already made some significant improvements that allow us to constantly fight for the podium but I know that the best is yet to come. We have come very close to winning the first win and with the support of Yamaha and the team I am confident that we will be able to do it before the end of the season.“.
