Liévin (France) – Ethiopian Lamecha Girma ran the world record for 3000 meters at the indoor meeting in Liévin, France. Czech representative Filip Sasínek won the race in 7:23.81. By one second and nine hundredths of a second, he beat the previous record set by Kenyan Daniel Komen in 1998.

The new world record holder Girma is the indoor world vice-champion at 3000 meters from last year's championship in Belgrade. In the open air, this twenty-two-year-old runner primarily competes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where he won silver at the last two world championships and at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo. also fell short of the former world record.
