The poor results put an end to his cycle in MLS : Guillermo Barros Schelotto was fired from the Los Angeles Galaxy . The team is last in the Western Conference of the United States Soccer League, with a record of five wins, three draws and 11 losses . The franchise reported the determination through a statement.
“Based on the results, we have decided to go in a different direction,” said LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese . “The LA Galaxy is a club that is built on winning on the field and being representative of the championship mentality and pedigree expected in Los Angeles. As a club, we have a collective responsibility and we must all share the blame for the current situation. I take responsibility for the poor results and believe that we can find the right path for this team and our club, “he added.
El Mellizo, 47, had taken up the challenge of coaching in MLS after losing the 2018 Copa Libertadores final against River in Madrid with Boca. The former striker had been the architect of Cristian Pavón's arrival in Los Angeles and in the franchise he had had the opportunity to guide Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who later emigrated to Milan, where he currently stands out at 39 years of age.
Guillermo Barros Schelotto had a great history in the United States : as a footballer, he shone in the Columbus Crew, where he won five titles and was voted the most valuable footballer in 2008. These antecedents and his resume as a coach in Argentina (he held two local competitions with Boca and a Copa Sudamericana with Lanús) built the interest of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The first part of his management in LA had not been bad: his team got 50% of the points in dispute. However, in 2020 he fell into a well from which Guillermo could not get him out. And it cost him his job.
