London – British singer Harry Styles won this year's Brit Award for Artist of the Year, the jury praised also his track As It Was. American singer Beyoncé scored with the song Break my Soul. Band of the year and discovery of the year is British indie rock Wet Leg. The organizers announced the results on Twitter.
Styles also won Album of the Year for Harry's House. The album was at the head of the British music charts for six weeks, writes BBC News.
The best producer this year, according to the jury, is David Guetta, the best international band Fontaines D.C.
This is only the second time that trophies have been awarded for the British and International Artist of the Year. These categories replaced the male and female awards. According to the organisers, the change will result in artists being awarded “only for their music and work”, and not for their identity.
The Brit Awards are organized by the professional music association British Phonographic Industry. Most of the winners are selected by a vote of more than a thousand members of the association, including representatives of record companies, press, music merchants, producers, disc jockeys and sponsors.
