Washington – Hogwarts Legacy from Avalanche Software and Portkey Games has become one of the fastest selling video games. In the two weeks since its release, people have bought 12 million units for a total of $850 million (about CZK 18.8 billion), The Daily Mail wrote today. The game is currently available on PC, Xbox X and S, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
The story created for this game takes place in the wizarding world of Harry Potter by the British writer JK Rowling at the end of the 19th century. This is roughly 100 years before Harry Potter himself and his friends attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The game's popularity was probably not affected by the voices of critics who called for its boycott due to its association with Rowling and her comments on social networks, which some consider to be transphobic, i.e. hostile to transsexual and transgender people. However, the criticism prompted the developer to add a comment on the game's website that Rowling did not participate in the development of the game.
The cost of developing the game neither the studio nor its parent company Warner Bros. The games have not been disclosed, but experts estimate them at 150 million dollars (about 3.3 billion CZK).
Hogwarts Legacy is the biggest game so far set in Rowling's wizarding world. The player enters the open world as a student at a wizarding school, which he enters as a senior straight into the fifth year, and in addition to fulfilling his school duties, he becomes involved in a dramatic story about the uprising of goblins and ancient magic.
Critics of foreign and Czech gaming magazines they generally gave the game a very positive rating in their reviews; they especially praised the processing of the missions, the colorful environment in which the seasons change, and the wizard duel system. On the contrary, according to critics, the game has shortcomings in the technical processing of the open world.
