Influenza – a viral disease with a high level of infectivity that could cause severe complications and in some cases lead to death. In the midst of an epidemiological season in 2020, the Center for civic health of Ukraine has published a memo on preventive measures of influenza and SARS. According to MOZ, the incidence of influenza and SARS in 2020 exceeded the epidemic threshold by 55.6%. Despite this, the intensity of transmissibility is characterized by the experts as the average. Compared to last year, deaths from influenza declined slightly: 26-confirmed research laboratory deaths vs 64.

Most often, the flu affects children and adolescents up to 17 years, at the moment this age group is 76.8% of patients.

Self-medication for the flu virus can be dangerous for health and life of the sick. Therefore, the Ministry of health of Ukraine and CGS insist that citizens are attentive to the following symptoms that may be indicative of developmental disorder: a severe and sudden increase in body temperature (up to 38 degrees and above), headache, body aches and joint pain, sore throat, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea. At the first sign of flu or SARS, doctors recommend immediately go to the hospital to receive proper care and treatment.

Prevention of flu and colds: tips from MOZ

  • regularly ventilate living and working spaces, as well as wet cleaning – the flu virus is killed in the open, fresh air
  • if the person shows signs of the disease, try to avoid direct contact with him, maintain a minimum distance of 1 meter
  • carefully watch your sleep and diet: balanced diet is vital and healthy sleep will strengthen your immune system
  • don’t forget about personal hygiene: wash your hands as often fashionable, especially when visiting places with a large crowd of people or objects for public use
  • if hand-washing for you for some reason are not available, use antiseptic cleansers based on alcohol
  • dress for the weather – during the epidemic of influenza overheating can be as dangerous as hypothermia, ensure that your feet were warm and dry
  • complete annual vaccination (especially those who are at risk: the elderly and children under 17).
