Szvoboda underwent emergency surgery in a hospital in Prague after the accident. However, Monday's examination showed that he has brain damage.
The experienced Hungarian rider fell after a jump at the start of the first race in Pacov. He suffered a head injury after a subsequent collision with the motorcycle of one of his rivals.
“Today before noon, an extraordinary personality of Hungarian motocross lost the biggest fight of his life. It is an incomprehensible tragedy for all of us. The pain it brings us is unbearable ,” said the Hungarian HTS team.
“Remember the person who was a symbol of strength, will and perseverance. The one who never gave up and always tried to do his best. Remember the friend who always managed to cheer up everyone around with his cheeky smile. Remember the boy who valued the love and support of his family,” the team representatives wrote.
Szvoboda took part in the Czech championship again this year after four years. In the past, he won the Czech championship twice. In 2017 he won in the MX2 category and two years later he won in the king class MX1. He became the champion of Hungary ten times. He was already able to score points in the world championship at the age of 19.
This is the first fatal accident in the Czech motocross championship since 2009, when 18-year-old Michael Špaček was seriously injured in the team race in Lokti nad Ohří.
