The suspect who said he had a bomb in a pickup truck near the Capitol, the seat of the US Congress in Washington, turned himself in to authorities this Thursday afternoon (19), according to CNN, which heard two police sources.
Earlier on Thursday, US Capitol police said they were investigating “a bomb threat” near the Library of Congress.
In a Twitter message, the police stated that “this is an investigation into a bomb threat” and advised people to “avoid the region”. The American press reported the possible presence of an explosive in a pickup truck.
The Library of Congress is across from the Capitol in the complex where the US Legislature is located. Congressmen are on summer vacation and are not expected to return to Washington until next week.
Hours after the occurrence in the American capital, police officers from New York (NYPD), in the United States, on Thursday evacuated part of one of the main tourist attractions in the city, Time Square, due to the location of a suspicious package.
“At 1:00 pm local time (2:00 pm Brasília), the traffic of vehicles and pedestrians in the area, located in the center of New York, where a large number of agents operated, was interrupted.
“Due to a police investigation, please avoid the area from West 45th Street on Broadway to Seventh Avenue in Manhattan. We will continue to inform you,” the NYPD posted on Twitter.
According to local television station ABC 7, a person threw a metal object at a seating area near the red stairs where theater tickets are sold.
Because of this, two blocks were evacuated, so that it would be possible to investigate what was happening and ensure that there was no danger.
