The regional court in Prague started hearing the case of the murder of a man in the village of Dřetovice in Kladensk, April 27, 2023, Prague. Defendant Jakub Dejm (left).
Prague – Nineteen-year-old Jakub Dejm confessed in court today to last year's brutal stabbing of a man in Dřetovice in Kladensk. He described himself as acting like a monster and a profit-seeking hyena under the influence of drugs. He added that he was sorry for what he had done. Dejma and his peer Filip Černák are threatened with 12 to 20 years in prison, or even exceptional punishment, for pre-planned robbery murder. Černak denied that he was complicit in the murder – according to him, his friend Dejm convinced him to rob the future victim's house.

A trained locksmith and a painter, who have known each other since kindergarten, described today at the Central Bohemian Regional Court that last year, on the last day of August, they traditionally met in a pub in the village of Stehelčeves. They drank beer and hard liquor. At night, they then moved to Dejm's, where they smoked several joints and also took ecstasy. Dejm then came up with the idea to seize the money of his sixty-two-year-old marijuana dealer from the neighboring village of Dřetovice. “I didn't agree, I didn't want to go there. But Kuba insisted, he pressured me. He was unpleasant to me, I was afraid of him,” Černák explained why he joined the plan.
Dejm procured the car and the weapons. He himself took a knife with an almost twenty-centimeter blade, armed Černák with a loaded revolver, which he allegedly bought on the Internet bazaar Bazos.cz. They drove part of the way, then donned knitted hoods and rubber gloves and continued on foot to their victim's house. The light was on in the house despite the late hour, but this did not deter the young men from breaking into the house. Both said today that they only had the weapons to possibly intimidate the dealer.
“I was drunk and passed out, so I had to make a noise. I heard the victim's footsteps and I slowed down. He looked out at me. He said, 'What are you doing here?' I didn't answer anything,” Dejm described the beginning of the confrontation with the man, to whom he inflicted 45 stab and cut wounds in the abdomen, chest, neck and hands. Due to massive external and internal bleeding, the man suffered shock, heart failure and air embolism. He died only tens of minutes after the attack, the indictment states.
“I don't understand what I did. I was like a monster, I'm just going on and on… It's like all my humanity came out of me, it wasn't me at that moment,” said Dejm. “I know where my problem is: it's in drugs and I never want to have anything to do with it again. I was a coward, I didn't think like a man, I cut his throat three times. He didn't deserve it, he wasn't a bad person and because of my greed he had to die like this,” he added.
Černák was searching the upper floor of the house at the time of the murder. After that, the two young men went down together to the basement, where the marijuana grow room was. They took 110,000 crowns in cash and two lighting fixtures worth approximately 36,000 crowns. On the way home, they threw Dejm's bloody clothes into the pond.
The dead man was later found by an acquaintance who came to visit him. The police subsequently asked for the cooperation of the public and received a number of suggestions and information from them. In the end, they arrested both young men, in one case in cooperation with the intervention unit.
