Brno – In January, the trend of gas and electricity savings continued in the Czech Republic in a year-on-year comparison. After adjusting for the effect of weather – January was 1.6 degrees warmer year-on-year – and for the consumption of the Počerady steam-gas power plant, gas consumption was 14.1 percent lower in January. Compared to the average of 2017 to 2021, the saving was even 19.6 percent. Last year, the initial savings compared to previous years due to gradually increasing gas prices began to show, according to the analysis of the company Amper Meteo. The latter has newly created a tool on its website, thanks to which both experts and laymen can monitor the consumption of gas and electricity in the Czech Republic online, accompanied by analyses, the company stated in a press release.

The warmer weather was also reflected in lower year-on-year electricity consumption. After adjustment for the effect of the weather, it fell by 4.4 percent, which can be attributed to both savings and reduced economic activity. Compared to the average for the years 2017 to 2021, the saving is similar, namely 4.7 percent.
The company bases its calculations and analyzes on publicly available data. It draws data on electricity consumption from the ČEPS company, and obtains current data on gas from the company NET4GAS. At the same time, he works with data from the Energy Regulatory Office and ČEZ. The website presents weekly and monthly analyzes of gas and electricity consumption after adjusting for the effect of weather or other factors, such as the consumption of the Počerady steam-gas power plant, which accounts for roughly five percent of gas consumption in the Czech Republic. There is also information on the production of wind and photovoltaic power plants in the Czech Republic. The tool that the company created on its website meets the increased interest in current data and comparisons with previous years.
The problem of gas and electricity savings was accelerated by Russian aggression in Ukraine, mainly due to dependence on Russian gas, which is gradually Europe, including the Czech Republic, is trying to remove. At the same time, the war started a faster effort to mount photovoltaics on the roofs of various types of real estate.
