In the semi-finals, Isner managed the 500th jubilee tie-break, beating the Ecuadorian Emilio Gómez 7:6 (10:8) and 7:5 on Friday. “I've already won 500 tie-breaks and I'm glad I didn't have to win the 501st,” said the 37-year-old American after the match. Another shortened game was waiting for him right after.

The Swiss Roger Federer is second in the historical ranking, having succeeded in the tie-break 466 times. For example, Serbia's Novak Djokovic has so far won 299 and Spain's Rafael Nadal 263. Isner has played a total of 820 shortened games.

“It's about experience. I'd like to win matches like Novak, 6-1 6-0, but it's just not my style,” he said with a smile after his quarterfinal win over Gómez. He also holds the ATP Tour record for the number of aces he played with over 14,000.
