In Israel and the Palestinian territories, violence between the two sides has recently occurred repeatedly. This year, according to DPA, 13 Israelis and one Ukrainian woman lost their lives as a result of Palestinian attacks. In the same period, 81 Palestinians were killed, both militants and civilians.
The peak of the violence so far took place at the end of February, when a Palestinian radical in the West Bank shot and killed two Jewish settlers. Dozens of Jewish settlers then began attacking Palestinians and their homes, killing one Palestinian and injuring 100 others.
The West Bank and eastern part of Jerusalem were occupied by Israel during the 1967 war. Together with the Strip, these territories have Gaza to form the future Palestinian state, the creation of which the Palestinians have been striving for a long time. But the area is currently home to hundreds of thousands of Israeli Jews, and according to Reuters, Israel rules out handing over the West Bank to the Palestinians.
